BOOK REVIEW: Fear of Falling by S.L. Jennings

Fear of Falling by S.L. Jennings
Genres: Contemporary Romance, New Adult
Publication Date: July 18, 2013
My Rating: ♥♥♥♥
I can’t remember the last time I felt completely safe. Security seemed more like a luxury to me, reserved for those who were fortunate enough to have picture perfect childhoods. For those who didn’t bear the ugly scars that keep me bound in constant, debilitating fear. I’ve run from that fear my entire life. But when I met him, for once, I couldn’t run anymore.

He scared the hell out of me in a way that excited every fiber of my being. It wasn’t the tattoos or the piercings. It wasn’t the warmth that seemed to radiate from his frame and blanket me whenever he was near. It was just…him. The scary beautiful man that threatened to alter 23 years of routine and rituals, and make me face my crippling fear.

My name is Kami and I am constantly afraid. And the thing that scares me the most is the very thing I want.

My Thoughts

I'm a sucker for broken heroines but what really caught my attention was the Author's disclaimer, it says it's inspired by the true events..

“You can’t save someone who doesn’t want to be saved. They have to want to fight, too. They have to see that they’re actually worth the fight.”

Fear of Falling didn't gripped me from the beginning and it took me awhile getting into the story. At first, I didn't feel any connection towards Kami... in the first few chapters I was confused.. I didn't understand what was her issue but as I continue to read the book, it slowly unfold the horrific experienced she had and it was heartbreaking and scary as shit... :/ I've never been abused but while reading her story, I felt connected to it and at some point I saw myself in her situation...

“The real you isn’t fucked up. We just gotta dig deeper, babe. Just keep trying to push aside the bullshit and reveal the real you, ok? Your fears are not you. Do you hear me? They don’t define who you are.”

Kami is broken, damaged and barely hanging on.. but despite her past she is strong and vulnerable sometimes. She doesn't let anyone get to close to her except her two best friends- Angel and Dom who has their own stories.. Their friendship is tight and no one understood the friendship they held.

“I’ve got you. I’ll always catch you when you fall.”
And just like that, Blaine had staked his claim on the untouched part of me that no living soul had ever moved. He had captured every fear, every reservation, and crushed them in the palm of his inked hand.

Blaine.. wow. This guy blew me away! He looks like a bad boy with all the tattooed and pierced thing going on but he's genuinely a nice guy! Patient, understanding, protective... sigh.. I could go on and on about his good qualities! I fell for Blaine instantly, when he talks, thinks and the way he struggle to help Kami just makes my heart melt!

I would risk my life to protect her, and give anything to ensure that she never felt that type of pain again.

Kami and Blaine had an instant lust! Sparks fly the moment they saw each other. I loved how Kami and Blaine’s relationship progressed throughout the story, but dang it... sometimes I had a hard time with Kami. Yes, I know that she has been through a lot but the way she acts when it comes to Blaine frustrate me. She goes hot and cold.. the push and pull.. seriously it was tiring.. I mean, come on.. here's a sexy guy willing to do anything.. as in anything for you and all you do is push him away! Gosh.. good thing Blaine is patient and very supportive.

“Don’t worry,” he smiled, pulling me into the hard warmth of his chest. “I’ve got you. I’ll always catch you when you fall.”

Fear of Falling  just flows right through you. It's well written and gut wrenching story that put butterflies in my tummy. It's sad to find out that the story is inspired by true events... :(

Overall I highly recommend this book specially if you're looking for an emotional read!

Now I wonder if Ms. S.L. Jennings is going to make this as a series? I would like to read Dom and Angel's story.. I think they deserve their own HEA.
