What if love can’t heal all wounds?

Second Chances, Book 1

After too many years of secretly loving her best friend, Zoey realizes she’s been shortchanging herself. It’s time to take action. This New Year’s Eve heralds the year she’s going to tell Rob the truth. Even if he is on the road, reaching for musical stardom with his band.

Her plan is derailed when she discovers a lump in her breast—and it’s not “nothing to worry about”. How can she ask Rob to take a chance on love when her future is so uncertain?

Rob has spent his entire life chasing his dream, but the moment he hears Zoey’s voice on the phone, he realizes he’s been running the wrong race. Zoey never sounds like she’s been crying. Ever. Without a second thought, he books a flight for home, determined to give her everything she needs. A shoulder to cry on, a hand to hold…and nights of intensely emotional, passionate sex.

His biggest challenge, though, is convincing his best friend that he’s in it for the long haul. Because he finally knows what he wants, and it’s not fame and fortune. It’s her—and her love.

Product Warnings
This book runs the emotional gamut between scorching-hot passion and the pain and fear associated with cancer. Keep a box of tissues next to your glass of ice water.

My Thoughts

“Robbie. Will you promise me something?”
He looked over at her. “Promise you what?”
“Will you promise to be my friend when school starts? You’re the only person I know here in my grade.”
He grinned. “I’m already your friend, silly.”
“Promise me anyway.”
Robbie sat up and crossed his heart. “I promise.”

Fix you is a short novella about Zoey and Rob. Best friends since childhood. Zoey has secretly loved him since she was a teenage. After staying friends for years, Zoey finally made a new year resolution to tell Rob that she's in love with him.. but few days later, she found out she has breast cancer...

“Zoey.”
“Yeah?”
“I’m going to break my promise.”
“What promise?”
He didn’t respond. Instead, he bent his head and kissed her.

I've read this probably 3x already and still love it! I'm a sucker for books about friends-turned-lovers, this book has it but with emotional twist! I loved the flashbacks to their childhood, it was touching and fun to see their friendship grow into something more. All the promises they made to each other was so cute and sweet I couldn't help but fall in love with them.

“Promise you’ll never let go of my hand?”
It was the easiest vow he’d ever made. “Promise.”

Eventho this is a short read story it's packed of emotions that you wouldn't be able to put it down. The interactions between Rob and Zoey specially during the cancer treatment was heart wrenching it kept my eyes wet. It made me believe that love really conquers all. ^_^

“My rock star,” she whispered.
“I like the sound of that.”
“I call you a rock star all the time.”
He kissed her hand. “Not that part, silly. I like the idea of being yours. Finally.”

The secondary characters "wine girls" are Zoey's girlfriends. They get together weekly to drink wine and talk about everything and I have no doubt in my mind that each of them will have their own story. ^_^

This is a must read!

About the Author
Writing a book was number one on Mari Carr’s bucket list and on her thirty-fourth birthday, she set out to see that goal achieved. Five years later, her computer is jammed full of stories — novels, novellas, short stories and dead-ends and six of her books have been published.

High school librarian by day and mother of two busy teenagers, Mari Carr found time for writing by squeezing it into the hours between 3 a.m. and daybreak when her family is asleep and the house is quiet.
