BOOK REVIEW: Wanderlust by Skye Warren

Wanderlust by Skye Warren
Genres: Contemporary Romance, Erotic
Publication Date: Apr 14, 2013
My Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥
Can love come from pain?

Evie always dreamed of seeing the world, but her first night at a motel turns into a nightmare. Hunter is a rugged trucker willing to do anything to keep her—including kidnapping. As they cross the country in his rig, Evie plots her escape, but she may find what she's been looking for right beside her.

Wanderlust is a dark erotic novel which explores dubious consent, captivity, and power play. Not intended for those uncomfortable with the subject matter or under eighteen.

My Thoughts

Dark, Intense, Emotional and Sexual...

Evie has led a sheltered life. She has an overly protected mother who is mentally ill and always tell her the world was too scary and streets are filled with men who would attack her. But finally Evie wanted to break free and be a normal person- see the world and find a way to fulfill her dream to see the Niagara Fall. She embarks on a journey and encounter Hunter... a truck driver who is dark and scary... Okay, when I reach this page I kinda knew what will happen next and was dreading to continue reading it... but for some unexplainable reason, I just couldn't look away... This book is pretty intense.. I think this is my first read that was too much of everything.

Two young people with a painful past...

“You’re mine. I caught you, and I’m not giving you back.”

Hunter is a broken soul. He's cold, sinister, rapist and so screwed up in the head..really! In the beginning he was scary to the point of me getting scared too but through out the book you find out the demon in his past.  He is a beautiful tormented man... I felt really sorry for this guy and just want to give him a hug.

“I had a home. For twenty years I was trapped inside one. Now I want to roam. With you.”
“I’ll never be the kind of man who can be gentle with you, Evie. Not like you deserve.”

Evie is innocent and naive. She has little experience outside the world (thank's to her crazy mother!) and so unprepared in life. I think Evie is the most unlucky heroine I've read so far. lol. Everything bad just happens to her left to right. My mind was screaming "give her a break!"

Now the sex scenes.. rape sex, angry sex, make up sex.. wow. just wow! It was so descriptive, brutal and arousing!

This is a dark masterpiece. I try to avoid dark tragic reads and I couldn't believe I read this one and actually enjoyed the book. I couldn't put it down and just had to know what will happen next! I can't explain how I feel about this book..

Was Hunter right or wrong? I have no idea... I have mixed feelings. This is fucked up but I kinda understand why he did it.. but of course if this happened in reality, there is no excuse and nobody in his right mind would do this sh*t to anyone and nobody deserve that kind of treatment.

I wondered what if I was Evie.. What if I was in that situation... What will I do??

Did I want them to have a HEA? I don't want to sound weird, but yes. I wanted these two broken individual to find love. They are meant to be together.

I’d found in Hunter a kindred, broken soul. We didn’t fit in with the rest of society and never really would—but neither did we deserve to be locked away or abused for our issues. We hadn’t asked to be this way. All we wanted now was to live in peace.

My only complain was the ending.. The ending was kinda open.. more like it was your own decision what will happen next. After all the darkness and intensity I've felt- it would have been nice to read a happy epilogue.  :(

Over all, the book is excellent and unpredictable! I applaud Ms. Warren for writing a remarkable story!

About the Author
Skye Warren writes unapologetic erotica, including power play or erotic pain and dubious consent. There's struggle in the sex. There's pain in the relationships. Her books are raw, sexual and perversely romantic.
